The Universities' Superannuation Scheme (USS)

The USS is a Hybrid automatic enrolment scheme for employees who are on academic or academic-related pay scales (generally grade 7 or above).

The Universities’ Superannuation Scheme (USS) is the principal pension scheme designed exclusively for academic and academic-related staff in UK universities and certain other institutions engaged in higher education and research.

�鶹AV Pension & Assurance Scheme (BUPAS)

The �鶹AV Pension & Assurance Scheme (BUPAS) is the Defined Benefit (DB) pension scheme specifically for all support and ancillary staff (Grades 1 to 6).

Exclusive to �鶹AV: This scheme is specific to �鶹AV employees.
Governance: The scheme is managed by a board of eight trustees, with equal representation from the University (employer appointed) and scheme members (member nominated).
Joining the scheme: Eligible staff members interested in BUPAS must complete an application form. This form is typically provided with your employment contract or can be obtained directly from the Pensions Office (pensions@bangor.ac.uk).

The �鶹AV Pension Plan (BUPP) is a Defined Contribution (DC) automatic enrolment scheme for all support and ancillary staff (Grades 1 to 6). BUPP operates as a Master Trust scheme, with Standard Life as the scheme provider.

Automatic Enrolment: BUPP is the scheme used for automatic enrolment at �鶹AV. Under UK law, eligible employees are automatically enrolled into a workplace pension.
Joining the Scheme: If you meet the UK's automatic enrolment criteria (typically aged 22 to State Pension age and earning above a certain threshold), you'll be automatically enrolled into BUPP without needing to complete an application form.

National Employment Savings Trust (NEST)

The National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) is a national scheme primarily offered by the University to all casual workers. The term 'casual worker' refers to anybody who may work for short periods on an ad-hoc basis on behalf of the University. This is usually for one-offs or certain events and does not include regular contracted staff.

Automatic Enrolment for Casual Staff: NEST serves as the automatic enrolment scheme for eligible casual staff members. Employers in the UK are legally required to automatically enrol eligible workers into a workplace pension.
Joining the Scheme: If you meet the UK's automatic enrolment criteria (typically aged 22 to State Pension age and earning above a certain threshold), you'll be automatically enrolled into the NEST scheme without needing to complete an application form.
