This year, Â鶹AV law students were able to take part in prestigious national legal competitions — experiences that have already begun shaping their future careers. 

With support from the Bangor Fund, thanks to our alumni generosity, a student team entered the national Client Interviewing Competition, joining 35 teams from universities across the UK. The experience was invaluable — students gained insight into the interpersonal and analytical skills required of solicitors, and their participation was proudly celebrated by their school for their professionalism and ambition. 

The Bangor Fund also enabled students to participate in two mooting competitions, both designed to develop the advocacy and reasoning skills essential for aspiring barristers. In March, two teams travelled to Cardiff for the Welsh National Moot, staying overnight to prepare. Both teams delivered strong performances and received excellent feedback from judges. In July, Bangor entered the UK National First Year Moot, held online and open exclusively to first-year undergraduates. Once again, students impressed with their preparation and poise, though they did not advance to the final rounds in London.

Although the teams did not advance to the final stages, their participation proved immensely valuable. Representing Bangor at a national level gave students the chance to strengthen their legal skills, grow in confidence, and engage meaningfully with peers and professionals across the sector. The experience not only enriched their academic journey but also laid important foundations for their future careers in law.

Mark Magure, Undergraduate Law student, said:

The competition was an excellent experience, allowing me to apply knowledge from our Legal Skills Assessment and explore key topics within Contract Law. It also provided an opportunity to collaborate with fellow students and strengthen our teamwork. Being assessed by external Barristers and Sitting Judges was both challenging and inspiring, offering unique insights into professional practice. I was truly honoured to represent Bangor in such a prestigious competition, gaining valuable experience and meaningful takeaways to further develop my skills. Grateful to our alumni whose support of the Bangor Fund made this opportunity possible!

The competition was a remarkable opportunity for our students. Building on this success, we are pleased that Â鶹AV has been invited and has proudly accepted to host the 2026 Welsh National Moot. This prestigious event will provide our students with excellent, ongoing opportunities to gain practical legal experience and further develop their skills.
